Teaser #4 - Here Without You (Between the Lines #4)

I remember once reading that a blogger should never, ever begin a post with something like, "Wow, I suck at blogging!" But seriously. After looking over the past few posts... Wow, I suck at blogging. Sorry about that. *Insert likely-to-be-unkept promise to post on a more regular basis here.*

Though this may be an odd teaser, it's definitely one of the most difficult I'll ever do, because making a playlist is hard. While I'm writing, I have a constantly building iTunes library of songs assigned to that book. Anything I hear that makes me think of my characters goes in it. Taken as a whole, there's a lot of REID threading through the Between the Lines series. He's the only constant POV in all four books, after all.

Little-known fact: one of my original titles for the first book/series was Reid Between the Lines. (I'm not kidding; I wish I was. You guys have no idea how many incredibly stupid things do not end up in/on books. You would be appalled.) Anyway, my word doc bore than title for a while, but I couldn't get over how silly it sounded, so I kept trying to come up with something else. Lots of titles having to do with film-making, every damned one of them dumb as hell.

At some point, my brain said, "Uh... What about dropping the 'Reid' part?" DING. We had a winner.

What was I saying? Oh, yeah. Why a playlist as a teaser? Well, for one, the way I do playlists: I take the 50-100 or so songs I've been listening to while writing the novel, and I narrow them to the number of chapters. Then, I assign a song to each chapter. When I made and posted the first one (for Easy, actually), my husband asked me why I felt the need to add that much work to it. "Why not just choose your ten or twenty favorites and move on?"

"Because I have to do everything the hard way," I answered. (I'm always snarky when I'm sort of wrong.)

He nodded and said, "Ah." (Many of our conversations are like this. It's why we've been able to stand each other so long. Ah means, "I have no idea how you came to that conclusion, but it's your life, babe." It also means, "Oh, yeah. I forgot that weird aspect of your personality that even thirty years with you hasn't yet explained.")

So here's this week's teaser: the Here Without You playlist on YouTube. (Go the book's page for the song list only.)

And no, I will not be explaining which songs match up to which character. That's the teaser part. ;)
